Description
Technical Specs
Made from PH neutral clay, and considered an ecologically sustainable medium, LECA is perfect for use in terrariums as a substrate. At AZDR we place LECA as our base substrate material, directly on the false bottom platform (#7 mesh keeps it from falling through) and then place New Zealand sphagnum moss right on top of it. It provides the plants with excellent root aeration while maintaining even moisture for the roots because the terracotta surface retains moisture. Rinse well before using.
Features
Reusable - boil for one hour on stove, cool and reuse.
Does not compress over time.
Eliminates the introduction of potential pests contained in many soils.
Environmentally friendly - discard in your garden, use with potted plants, or keep re-using.
Reduces weight of tanks.
Doesn't smell when you break down the tank - soil and peat can, and very badly sometimes.
Many other uses including as a potting medium alone or in a mix.
Light wieght space filler.
IDEA
- Use this ultimate media to plant epiphytes in the following manner. Take a 32 oz. deli cup, like we sell for fruit flies, and punch two or three holes in a horizontal row, about 1/2 inch apart, approximately an inch from the bottom of the cup. Fill one third full of LECA, hold you plant above that LECA and fill in with more LECA. Now when you water, just fill it up until the excess flows out the holes in the bottom, leaving a little reservoir of water at the bottom which will keep most of the higher LECA wet from the natural wick effect it has. If using in this manner, you can soak the LECA in a solution containing weakened fertilzer over night to impregnate.
